    Question:
I was replacing the V belt on my Husqvarna LTH 130 (9541401017A)and accidentally knocked the Idler spring extension off what it was attached to at both ends. I connect one end to what I think is the hole on the pulley end and attach the other end to what I think it goes to but doing that causes the V belt to rub against the spring which is not good. I spent hours looking at photographs and see hundreds of pictures but all have a different hole on the mower deck and none show my exact model.
    Details:

The belt isn't in the picture but it rubs across the top of the spring of the idler pulley when installed. The Mandrel pulley is to the right at the top of the photo.

Another pic showing one end of the spring at the idler pulley

a third pic showing the spring where I guess it connected to. The only hole I could connect to was the one it is in.

Is this one of the LTH130 with an electric PTO clutch?

      Yes

Okay. The following should work then.

      • Remove the spring at movable idler arm leaving opposite connected where it is currently attached. see the rest of the text as you may need to remove the other end too.
      • Install the v-belt.
      • Now hook the spring free end around the bolt extension above the idler pulley center. You may need a spring hook tool to pull the spring. Also you may need to unhook the other end so you can pull the spring into place as the idler being moveable may not let you attach the spring easily otherwise. A spring hook is basically stiff heavy wire with a open hook on one end so can remove it once the spring is hooked into place.
      • This should now have the spring above the v-belt and not rubbing on the v-belt.
      • It also should have constant tension on idler pulley assembly to keep the v-belt tight.

Note this is an after thought design as the deck was originally meant to a manual linkage engage deck without an electric PTO. But Husqvarna did this on several mowers that they switch over to electric PTO setups. It works, just not what is normally seen in field today.

      Worked!!

      Thank you so much!!!

The belt did barely missed the spring after I did it. Two sheets of  papers wouldn't clear but one did.  I checked belt several times while mowing lawn and there was no overheating and after I was done it seemed the gap had widened. Funny but when I was searching the internet for solutions I came across a Craftsman that had the type of arrangement you suggested. I dismissed it at the time but learned today the Husqvarna made some Craftsman mowers!

Actually AYP (American Yard Products) made most the Craftsman until lately when they which over to MTD.

Currently AYP was acquired by Husqvarna as did Poulan. So AYP made are now part of Husqvarna.
