    Question:
My brand new 440 chainsaw will not start
    Details:

I followed all the instructions for the chainsaw & it will not start up.  It has gas & bar oil.  When I go to warm up the engine, the engine never sounds like it turns over.  It doesn't matter if I take the choke off after that, it will do the same thing. The air purge has liquid in it. Any Ideas?

Dave, If the saw is in warranty and brand new, I would definitely recommend taking it to an Authorized Husqvarna Dealer. I am Not real familiar with the 440 but, I have several other Husqvarna models. But If your following the Manual directions for starting, They should start in the second or third pull, after that your just flooding the engine. It is real important that your using fresh Gas and mixing your fuel to engine oil to the correct ratio, or buy a can of premix fuel. Your Manual should give you the correct ratio, on mine it is 50:1 mix or 50 parts fuel to 1 part engine oil. Next, I would check the fuel filter in the gas tank, sometimes they sit in fuel for a while and then get varnished over. Check that the fuel filter is bright white, and not yellowish or brown looking, If it is they are easy and reasonable to replace. Finally after two or three pulls, and the engine doesn't start remove the spark plug and see If its wet or has gas on it. If it is wet, there is a good chance that you have a carburator problem, so again I would recommend a Husqvarna Dealer.  Oh, one last check that you can make, with the On/off switch in the off position and the spark plug still removed, pull on the starter a couple of times and see If it pulls over real easy. If it doesn't then you may have an internal engine problem. If it pulls fairly easily, then wipe the spark plug off, and reinstall it. Set the On/off switch to On, push the primer bulb 4-5 times, set the choke to full choke, and give it one or two pulls, then take the choke off, and pull it a third time it should start. I hope this helps.

Just bought a brand new 450 at Lowe's myself.  Despite the fact that I actually read the directions and followed them exactly, the saw will not start.  Husqvarna's troubleshooters don't work on the weekends (when most of us are actually using their products) so they are no help.  If it won't start right out of the box, I see no hope quite frankly.  Returning it and going with the Stihl.

I totally agree with Brian, having no help line on the weekends makes the product useless. I appreciate that professional users need weekday support but, if Husqvarna expects to gain the homeowner market, they need to provide Customer Support on the weekend.
