    Question:
I just bought a HU775L and couldn't complete my first mowing. It ran great, then all of a sudden it was really hard to start, and now if you start it, it runs really weakly and only for a few seconds and dies. I emptied and put in fresh new gas, but no change. Please tell me it's something simple so I don't have to return it, as I did like the power of this mower. Thanks!

    Jon,

You can get in touch with our customer service representatives and give them the specific product number and they can find the OEM part for you. Just call 1-800-487-5951.

    I hope this helps.

This may be it.  There is a spring on the opposite side from where the spark plug goes in that helps control the speed of the engine.  It could be bent, stretched, or loose.  I got around some bushes with my HU775L and suddenly the engine speed went from full power to an idling speed.  Finally figured out the spring got bent & stretched.  Sort of fixed it with needle nosed pliers.  Came here looking for a replacement spring and a GOOD diagram of the engine parts.

      Still looking for that info.

Thanks for your post!  Unfortunately if this happens so easily I'll definitely be returning this mower.  That explains why it was so sudden.  And as I look at the engine at the cheap plastic parts I can't believe there isn't a cover or something...the pieces will get broken very easily it looks like.

Well, since it was such a simple fix and the mower is so powerful, I decided to keep it.  I may put a cover to protect the innards this time, but meanwhile, the spring I put is not the exact one and it seems to be running the engine too quickly.  Lars did you ever get ahold of the original spring or find a suitable replacement?  I'll post back if I find one, as well.

I put a post up on April 10 asking for a parts list and engine illustration at http://answerarmy.com/posts/b6445ad2f9 There is no response to date. Wondering whether I should take this unit back if this is a taste of future customer support.

After I said I'd keep it I tried different springs and none ran the engine at the correct speed so I swapped the mower out for a new one rather than lose my 30 day right of return. I'll be more careful this time but I really want to get a few extra springs. I can tell you for sure that 260870 Briggs and Stratton Choke Return spring is the wrong part.
