    Question:
I purchased a Husqvarna YTH22V42 Lawn Mower on 06/14/10. The serial number on the Mower is 051010A002128. The Briggs & Stratton Intek 724cc 22 HP Motor has a build date of 06/2007 & the Serial Number is 070610YG68732. The dealer said that the engine being 3 years old didn't matter. What's the deal. Motor sits in a warehouse for almost three years before it's installed in a mower.

    Johnny,

I want to expand on my recent answer.  The Briggs and Stratton website does have a breakdown of there serial number scheme.  You are correct according to their directions that your particular engine was manufactured June 10, 2007.  These directions can be found on the link mentioned above.

      Hey Johnny,

Thanks for contacting Answer Army.  Serial numbers may vary per manufacturer.  The 051010 digits shows that you have a 2010 tractor.  The engine is warrantied based on the date of sale for the tractor.  Without knowing the engines serial number coding scheme then I am unable to confirm if the actual build date for them.  Thank you again for contacting Answer Army.

at least you got a briggs and stratton engine, if it was a kohler it would be in pieces like mine with under 200 hours and less that 2 1/2 years of use.

Can you give me some info on the trouble you have(had) with the Kohler engine!
