    Question:
I recently bought a SRD17530 lawn tractor. Every time I try to engage the blade, it stalls. Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you for contacting the AnswerARMY.

It is upsetting that you have experienced this failure.

Start by making sure the seat safety switch is connected, if all the safety switches are properly connected then I would suspect something is caught in the mower deck. I would suggest that you take the mower back to the local selling dealer for service of the mower deck.

      Hi Leslie -

My name is Michelle and I also have this lawn tractor, relatively new owner - purchased 11/2011.  I find that my mower will ALSO stall when I engage the mower deck!  It's frustrating!  I have found that if I start the mower, and just drive it around the yard for 5-10 minutes letting it completely warm up THEN try and engage the mower blades, it has worked for me.  (This has worked for me until today!)  Couple of helpful hints:

      1.  Drive around for a few laps around your yard, let the machine completely warm up before you try to engage the mowing blades.

      2.  After sufficient warm up period, make sure that you're pushing the engine speed all the way up to fast (and the throttle handle slips into that little groove) before you try to engage the mowing blades.

      3.  Push that mowing blade engagement arm up slowly... I've killed mine several times by pushing it forward too quickly.

TODAY:  I completely finished mowing my front yard this morning, then returned the tractor to the back yard and turned it off.  (While I put a few supplies in the shed.)  The machine was turned off for no more than 10 mins (therefore, it should still be WARM).  When I turned it on to mow the backyard, the mowing blades wouldn't engage without stalling the machine.  So... I drove around for another 10 mins - STILL NO LUCK.  Very, very frustrating...

Sorry to hear someone else is having this issue!  (If any of the helpful hints above help you - GREAT!  If not, that makes two of us having this trouble!)

This problem has been solved-I ended up having to get someone to come over and take a look at it.  Apparently the bagger attachment is quite finicky.  If the bagger is not closed then the blades do not engage.  Every time this happens now, all I have to do is to open and close the bagging attachment using that lifter bar thingy (I am really not mechanically inclined as you can probably guess).  There is a certain sound when it shuts tightly.  You also have to make sure you clean out all the grass from arournd the bagging sensor and make sure the grass discharge shoot is clean and not clogged.

You were correct. This was my shut off solution. On the left side of the bagger, facing it from the rear, there is a safety switch that needs to be engaged. It is finicky, if it is not depressed fully, mower will stall while trying to engage. I solved this problem by sticking (glued) a small rubber bumper to the switch, so as to make it a more reasonable tolerance. Since then, no problems.Still works as shutoff as factory intended, but no stalls.

I searched my pdf copy of owner manual, provided by the store, for the answer to this question and FOUND NOTHING.  I'm using a pdf copy because the store did not supply an original manual.  I called the mower shop to come get the mower and fix this exact problem.

I just hung up the phone from the mower shop. They discovered that the BAGGER SAFETY SWITCH wasn't engaged by the bagger.  The blade won't engage when that happens.

This store offers free pickup & delivery only if a problem proves to be a warranty issue.  They're not charging me their $65 fee THIS TIME after I insisted that they not charge.  They're charging me $15.50 for their mechanics time however.

I would like to disconnect ALL of these safety switches so the mower will work every time I turn the key.  It should not be causing owners so much grief.
