    Question:
RE CS 2238S Jonsered made by Husqvarna
Bought it new, ran 100% 1st 3 hours...

Starts well but starves of fuel after 1 or 2 minutes.
and won't restart, not even fire.

Loosening the fuel tank cap, allows starting well and runs for another 1 or 2 minutes again until starving for fuel

Its obviously staving for fuel, because fuel vent is not functioning.

As it's $150 just for an estimate to repair and it can be replaced for $225 I need to repair it myself. Or ship it back as an example of a product priced so low it doesn't actually remain functional for long.

I have it stripped down to the bare powerhead. but can't locate all the fuel system vent components.

Can you email a fuel system vent diagram please?
Viewing the parts list shows the components but not their location, detail or routing.

Should I replace 545-03501 vent line, 530-029868 Vent plug, 530-026119 checkvalve ...what is your suggestion?

      Dennis,

Here is a link to an IPL drawing and parts list: /pdf/ddoc/JONI/JONI2010_AAaa/JONI2010_AAaa__16.pdf

I hope this helps, I have not worked on a Jonsered Chainsaw yet, but have a friend who is a dealer and service rep. So If you get stuck for a question, just let me know, and I can see what he will tell me.

PS. The Fuel system consists of pages "H", "L", & "N". The Tank vent is item 15 & 16 on drawing page "L". You will probably need to remove the carburetor to make it easy to see the vent. From your description I would probably suspect the carburetor, so while you have it out of the chainsaw, you may want to open it up, inspect it and look for any obvious problem like a bad fuel diaphram, then clean it real good and put it back together.

If I can be of any additional assistance, Please let me know.

It's as if you didn't read the detail prior to responding!

I'm responding by disposing of this new Husqvarna made saw after only a few hours use from new and purchasing a Stihl replacement..

      Dennis.

First off I am Not a Husqvarna Representative, this site  "Answer Army" is an open forum which allows individuals to help each other as well as Husqvarna Representives, who do answer questions on an occassional basis, I was just trying to help you.

Second, I did read all of your details, and I have completely re-built about 6 Husqvarna Chainsaws, which now run great, and I use them a couple times a week. So I was just sharing some of my personnel experience. Oh, I have also worked on Stihl and several other Chainsaw Manufacturers, and even the Stihl are Not as easy to work on, and I would imagine that you are Not going to get your Stihl worked on for free when you take it back to the Dealer.

In, My personnal opinion Husqvarna and Jonsered are great chainsaws, so sorry to hear your unhappy.
