    Question:
Per the manual, the Huskvarna HU775H self-propelled mower is ready to mulch right out of the box. Our unit does not disperse mulched grass evenly over the lawn. It dumps clumps of grass here and there. We know all the reasons for unsuccessful mulching ~ grass is too long ~ grass is wet ~ under carriage of mower deck not clear ~ mowing too fast. We can’t think of any reason why we can’t get the nicely manicured lawn we desire. Our retired 15 year old mower did a much nicer job of mulching. I mowed after work yesterday, having last mowed 4 days prior, grass was dry and the mower still did not evenly disperse mulched grass. After taking a close look at the mower we think you have a design problem. The rear discharge tube area that is used for bagging in it's current configuration will never allow for the proper mulching action. The drive belt cover / tube next to the rear discharge blocks the swirling action that is mandatory to get a proper mulch. This is also the cause of the clumps that the mower kicks out. The grass builds up against the side of the tube then drops out in a clump.

Our number one reason for buying the Husqvarna is the one touch adjustment for raising and lowering the mower deck. It is so convenient! The mower starts easily and we like the ergonomic handle. Our unit is self propelled and is very powerful when we need a little extra help getting up an incline. It's a really well designed mower except for the mulching flaw.

Do you have any suggestions for us to remedy the poor mulching with this unit?

Thanks for taking the time to use AnswerArmy, however we will need you to take the unit to a local Husqvarna dealer in order to diagnose the problem current information on the unit will not be enough to determine what is wrong with your mower. I will need an experienced mechanic who can assist with providing pictures and component information. i hope this will be helpful.

      Thanks again.

I purchased my HU775H late in the season last year and had not had the chance to really use it until recently.  Same as the first post, I realize all the reasons for poor mulching.  I have used it on dry short grass and continue to get these clumps.  I can't even get rid of them by going over them multiple times.  My old Snapper does a better job.  I am very frustrated and have even tried a different blade even though the orignal Husqvarna blade got good reviews and have gotten the same results.

I would really like to know if anyone has come up with a solution other "take the unit to a local Husqvarna dealer in order to diagnose the problem".

There has got to be a solution to this problem!

      Thank you!

Thanks for your lack of response Husqvarna!

Based on where the clumps were being left behind, I thought the problem might be the cavity for the rear discharge even when the door is closed.  Since I don't bag I made a simple plate from flashing to cover this cavity.  This made a big improvement and seems to have corrected the problem.

When looking at my old snapper, their rear discharge door is formed in such a way as to not have this cavity.

In the future I may form some sort of contoured block to attach to the rear door in order to fill this cavity so if I want to use rear discharge I can.

With the purchase of this mower I now own four Husqvarna products and had a lawn tractor in the past - thanks for nothing Husqvarna!

I have the same problem on my 4 year old HU600L. I agree with the previous posts. I think the best fix is buying a Honda mower with the twin blade. It is very frustrating that Husqvarna can't fix these issues in 4 years. I'm happy with my mower except the mulching issue. I hope someone finds a fix.
