    Question:
I recently purchased the Husqvarna HU800AWD (the new all wheel drive walk-behind mower) and I am generally pleased with the mower's performance; however, I have one major issue regarding it's mulching capabilty. When mulching, grass builds up in the mower and it drops clumps of grass randomly in the yard. Looking at the design, it appears to be caused by an inadequate mulching plug that is built into the rear bagger door. The mulcing plug is much too small and allows grass to build up around the bagger door, which drops in the yeard periodically. It is really annoying, to the point that I can't mulch with this mower and I am forced to bag the grass. At first I thought it was because the grass was too tall, but it happens no matter the grass height everytime I mulch. My previous mowers (both Sears Craftsman) mulched much better and I beleive it was because of the design which had a much larger mulching plug that was a separate part. The mulching plug on the Sears mowers made the deck one complete circle and didn't allow the grass to build up like the Husqvarna. I have read several complaints about this mulching issue on the Husqvarna at various sites, including consumer reports. Surely, Husqvarna has come up with a solution to this problem, like an aftermarket mulching plug attachment or something similar. Please advise if you guys have something to fix this issue as I am contemplating returning this mower because it is so annoying to mulch with.

Gary- any luck... I just bought a model one step back from yours tonight and I have the same issue. Clumps every 10 feet.. Extremely frustrated as I love the mower otherwise.

No luck solving this issue.  I have not received any advice from Husqvarna or any owners.  I have read on the web of others having this same issue and have not seen anyone post a solution.  I really like everything else about the mower so I want to keep it, but it does bug me that I can't mulch well.  For now I have been bagging almost everytime I mow the yard.  I am sure the problem lies with the inadequate mulch plug.  I may try to jerry rig something to make the mulch plug larger so there isn't a spot under the mower deck to let grass accumulate and then drop every 10 ft or so (If I make the mulch plug larger then there will be a complete circle under the deck).  Sad that I have to jerry rig something on a brand new $500 mower.

Gary my mower is 4 years old and has the same problem. It seams that the engineers don't use their own equipment so they can make it better. I want to sell mine and get a Honda with twin blades.

I've called in about this problem many times. It's very clear that Husqvarna doesn't give a ***. The last time I called they said they had a new blade that works better. They charged me $37.00 for the new blade. When the new blade arrived It was the same blade that was already on the mower. I'll never buy anything from Husqvarna again.
