    Question:
I recently recieved a 240 series chainsaw with an 18 in bar as a gift. it was purchased from a sears store. i was wondering if there are different chain and bar combos that can be used with this saw to make it cut more aggerssive. the bar that is on the saw seems to be too narrow at the nose. the saw is wonderful, i would just like it to be a little faster/ aggerssive ----thanks

    Stephen,

Hi and thanks for using the Answer Army to post your questions.

Bar and Chain 101. You can change your bar and chain as long as the numbers match up. What you have on the machine as far as the bar goes is a Laminated sprocket nosed guide bar, it has a small mount, meaning that you will have to replace your bar with a small mount bar. This is where it mounts up to the machine. The gauge or the track that runs down the middle of the bar is .050, again this will have to match up.

As far as the chain, as long as it is a .050 gauge and has 56 drive links with a tooth pitch of 3/8" you should be in good shape. I have attached a link below that will take you to Oregon's web site. You can change up the search parameters to narrow down your search. Most major "Retailers" will carry these combinations.

    Thanks again
