    Question:
The fuel line in the gas-tank of my Husqvarna e series 142 has totally melted away. I have been advised to buy a new length of tubing and a new filter.! I can't see any nozzle inside the tank to connect the new line...! Do I have to scrap my machine, or is it possible to open up the tank ( to be able to gain access ..??)

      Dominique,

Here is a copy of the IPL drawings for your chainsaw which may help: /images/ddoc/HUSI/HUSI2009_USen/HUSI2009_USen__530165248.pdf

Also, refer to the attachment file, and I have outlined with both pictures and text, how to replace your fuel line and filter.

I hope this helps! If I can be of any additional help, Please post your question to this reply, and I will try to answer it for you

PS. I am Not a Husqvarna Representative or Authorized Repair, just an experimental chainsaw person. Also Please let me know if this solves your problem.

Thanks..very helpful but I am a bit leery of the "dismantling" work involved to get at the  gas line inlet toward the carburetor (inside tank)

I am no mechanic and was hoping of at least a nozzle/spout/? sticking out to connect the new piece of line. and filter ! .

the gas-tank seems to be one piece and I don't see too many ways to get in it..!

      Dominique,

NO - You do not want to take the fuel tank apart.

However - another way, if you un-bolt the A/V (Anti-Vibration) mounts, part #32 in the diagrams, there should be three of them (2) usually up front (left and right side) and then one towards the rear or towards the handle in the back, you will then be able to separate the handle and fuel tank assembly compartment from the crankcase and carb compartment assembly. Also the throttle linkage will slide out from the handle, just take note of how the linkage is fastened to the caburetor since sometimes the throttle linkage falls off when you separate these two assemblies.

By separating these two assemblies, your chainsaw will then look like my attached file diagram, and you may then better realize how to get the fuel line inside the fuel tank, but then you will have  a two step process to replace the fuel line.

First putting the filter onto the fuel line and again with a piece of wire pull the fuel filter and fuel line up through the fuel tank. Next you will have to put the wire up through the crankcase and carb compartment hole, and pull the fuel line up into the carb compartment, while repositioning the assemblies, so that the throttle linkage slides back into the handle, and so the A/V mounts line-up with the bolt holes, and then refasten the three A/V mounting bolts.

Also make sure the fuel line does not get pinched between the two assemblies by taking out all of the slack, and making sure the fuel filter is still sitting at the bottom inside the fuel tank. Its really Not too difficult, and more difficult to put into words, so I hope I have not been too wordy.

Again, I hope this helps. But Please ask questions If your not sure!

      Karla and Dominique,

It might it easier to get line through when fuel line end is tapered when using the tag wire as you want the line to fit tight in the fuel tank line through hole. You would feed the tag wire through fuel line hole first and then pull the line through. Depending how tight the fit is you may need to try a time or two as the wire sometimes pulls through the fuel line. After the line in place then you just cut the taper off , squaring the end.

Here is picture of what I use to get the lines through the tank line fuel holes.
