    Question:
Repair or replace - Chain Brake/Clutch Cover assembly on 445 Chainsaw?
    Details:

When doing some heavy duty tornado clean-up in Alabama, I managed to lose the single bar nut that held the clutch cover to the chainsaw.  We managed to get the cover off but did not attempt to put in back on since we didnt have any replacement nuts.

When I returned home and had a replacement bar nut in hand I determined that the chain brake was still engaged (which prevented the cover from seating properly) and that I could probably turn the joint by removing the spring that held it in place.  I realized the errors of my ways when I removed the chain brake assembly (spring shot across the room) that opens and closes the brake.  Now I cannot, for the life of me, put that spring back in place.  I also determined, later, that there may have been another method I could have used to disengage the clutch/brake in the cover.

With all of that said, I now need to know if it is cheaper to repair (have somebody reassemble all the pieces in the cover) or to buy a whole new chain brake /clutch cover assembly.  I think I am looking at part no. 544 09 79-01 (show as number 1, on page four of /images/ddoc/HUSI/HUSI2011_AAaa/HUSI2011_AAaa__54.pdf ...the spring shown as part 7 is the one I cannot put back in).

    Any ideas?

Thank you for contacting the AnswerARMY.

It is upsetting that you ran into that kind of a problem.

I would think it would be much less expensive if you have all the parts to simply have your reassembled, I can not imagine charging more than for just a couple of minutes to reassemble the chain brake. This should not take more than about 2-3 minutes of time.

And yes we have an FAQ or two on how to reassemble if the chain brake is engaged, one takes a little muscle and can be performed by most users, the other requires special tools.
