    Question:
I just purchased a Weed Eater One riding mower from Wal Mart and during my first use I found that the mower would still move forward when the shift lever was in the neutral position. Also the lever in the back to allow the mower to move by pushing it doesn't stay in the free movement position. Is this something easy to fix or do I need to return the mower?

Thank you for contacting Answer Army.  Before returning it or contacting your local servicing dealer I want to make sure that you have the drive lever in the second slot.  This slot would be the neutral position.  Next for the free movement position, please have the mower turned off, in the neutral position, and make sure the free movement lever is pushed up and to the left.  If the lever is in that position then it should be locked there until you unlock it.

If these items are still not working, then please call you servicing dealer for additional assistance.  Please find the link below to search for a list of dealers.

I had the same problem with my mower moving forward in netural.....factory should do this since I have heard this problem more than once........K-mart shipped one back saying they had no Neutral but in fact they did and did not know it needed an adjustment below. Its a simple fix and not listed in the book. I needed to adjust my handle position 1/2 " back.....since my neutral was at the mid-shift point of going into the first gear. You can loosen the lower screws on the gear shift flange just below the handle near the motor. I was able to pick up 1/4 " adjustment there......then I loosen up the two screws that attach the motion lever handle and got another 1/4 " of adjustment. Its perfect now in the "N" position as well as R and the reat of the speeds. Hope that helps some.........

For the free movement lever, take off the parking break before switching it.  I noticed on mine, when the parking brake is engaged, the free movement lever moves, and can not be switched.
