    Question:
    Husqvarna e-Series 340 filter
    Details:

I have a number of Husqvarna saws that I bought seven years ago after I dontated all my commercial Homelite saws to the Katriana cleanup.

My smallest saw, an e-Series 340 dropped a part last night that I found as I was pulling chains for sharpening.  It looks like a filter of some kind.  My manuals don't really give me a clue to what it might be.  I'm thinking it might be a breather valve.  I see a hole near the gas tank where it could have come from, but if it is, the service manuals show it being inserted backwards from what I would expect.

Here are photos of it sitting on a U.S. quarter.  It is quite small.

I'm far from young anymore.  To use my next smallest saws, which are 455 Ranchers with various size bars -- limbing with them takes way too much of my energy.

Any assistance would be greatly appreicated.  I'd like to fix it myself, as years of experience has shown me that far too many of the local small engine repair shops know far less about small engines than they should.

    Thanks,

    Arvo

      Arvo,

The part is a "Fuel tank vent", see attached diagram, and part# 537 35 95-01. The part fits back into the handle for the fuel tank as shown in the diagram.

I hope this helps, see attached file!

Yes, that is the part I thought it was.

Am I looking at it backwards?  From the diagram, it appears that the larger filter part goes in first, and the the small tube sticks out.

Looking at the saw, I think I can see where it goes into the tank.  There is a small hole for the back part of the fuel tank vent, and a bigger round area for the filter part.  Yet, my manual, and the diagram you posted, make it look like it goes in just the opposite way.

What am I missing? Is this a Eurpopean drawing that is different from American drawing standards?

        Sorry to be so dislexic.

Also, assuming it goes in either direction, what holds it in place when it does get put back in?

        Thanks,

        Arvo

      Avro,

I am not sure why the diagram is wrong, but I would install it which ever way it fits, it will work in either direction. On my saw the breather attaches to a small piece of fuel tubing, and then goes into the fuel tank. I would check the inside of your tank and see if there is a short 1 inch or so piece of tubing inside, I believe If you fit the tubing onto fuel vent first and then push the vent into the hole, the tubing will secure the vent.

      I hope this helps.

      Avro,

That short piece of tubing maybe the piece shown in the "Crankcase dwg", see attached file and part# 544 08 14-02. You may want to see If there is another hole that feeds into the fuel tank that this short piece of tubing would go through, In which case the first diagram with the "Fuel tank vent" may be shown in the correct orientation. And the tubing is all that holds that  fuel tank vent (breather) in place, that is the way mine hooks up too, but I don't have the 340E.

Again, I hope the additional information helps.

      Avro,

Looking at my crankcase and my fuel vent breather, part #15, which is in the same orientation as yours, So I believe all of the drawings are correct. So the key piece is where is that short piece of tubing? If you find that one end goes into the fuel tank and the other end to the breather. Just to see the Orientation of my fuel vent, see attached drawing. I realize its a different model, but the orientation is the same. See attached diagram of my chainsaw!
