      Steve,

I don't know of too many problems with "Autotune", I have had a Model 545 for over year now, and it runs great. I also recently acquired  a Model "550" which I bought for Parts since the individual that sold it to me said it had a scored piston and cylinder, I am not sure what they did to it to cause the problem, ie. Maybe improper fuel mixture.

I have replaced the piston and cylinder with a new OEM assembly, and it seems to run fine. I did notice a small 3/8 x 1/4 inch seize mark on the lower portion of the skirt, on the exhaust side of the new piston after a couple short runs. I suspect the rebuilt chainsaw got really hot during the initial run or possibly second run when the "Autotune' was initially setting itself, Not sure ?

The "autotune" keeps resetting with different runs, so I know it is working correctly, Also I am working on taking engine temperatures to see how hot the engine is getting, but I also Just used the rebuilt Model 550 with a 16" bar and .325 pitch chain, to cut up a pile of Oak, and the chainsaw flies thru that wood like its  butter, definitely a very fast chainsaw. One of my RPM readings said it was running at 14,149 Rpms. that is fast.

Just curious, why your asking about the autotune ? I really like both of mine and wish I had a little bigger "Autotune chainsaw" to experiment with like a model 562 or something.

Please let me know If I can be of any help

Terrific answer. I asked because I really don't like adjusting carburators while working with smallengines whether snowblowers, mulcher, lawn tractor, chainsaws, etc. They waste too much time just as pre electronic carbs did with autos (my opinion)!

Husqvarna has one consumer model with Autotune and they stopped the program after dealer push back on the 445 model, yet all the Semi- pro and Pro models include Autotune. So I asked around. Mum until a dealer rep told me the software was pricey so many dealers refused to sell 445 Autotune causing Husqvarna to stop production and revert all include their new 460 to manual Carbs. Few professional repair and dealer on Long Island so the couple who are serious shops told me to go ahead and get one, there are few issues with 445 Autotune. I have a 550XP with Autotune but wanted a spare/change off machine. I did order a new 445 Autotune based on your answer Karla and the one dealer who also ones a couple himself and swears by them. Thanks for your thorough info !

      Steve,

Good Luck on your New chainsaw, and if you have time and your picking the chainsaw up in person, Have the dealer start the chainsaw, and show you how to start the chainsaw. Even If you have owned a chainsaw before, its worth a few minutes with the Dealer showing you how it starts. The instructions will be in the manual, however Its definitely a good idea to see it done in person.

I would also ask If you have time, and the Dealer is willing to show you a "Cold" start. "Warm" start, and a "Flooded" start, each of those starts are definitely different. But hopefully you won't accidentally flood your chainsaw, but some New owners of Autotunes have had that problem, but its really just a technique starting problem, and Not a chainsaw problem.

If you have a good Dealer, he will know exactly why your asking for these starts,, make sure you observe and watch carefully.

The Auto tune does sound a little funny when you first hear one, they are definitely different then an Older chainsaw, but get use to the new sound and that is normal there is nothing wrong with your chainsaw.

Again, Good Luck and after your using it, Please post If your enjoying it
