    Question:
I have a HU775H rear powered mower. I hit a hard object with the mower blade and sheared the pins off on the blade attachment adapter. I have tried to replace the blade adapter with two new units and each time as soon as I start the mower up the pins on the new blade adapter shear off. What gives?

Yes, I have sheared them off on two new blade adapters just by starting the mower.

First make sure the blade isn't contacting anywhere the deck during it rotation.

Also please review the following instructions on blade replacement. The first are about the blade adapter which you probably can skip. Making sure the blade is mount on the star correctly and not upside down is very important as is torquing the retaining bolt to spec.

Below is quoted from the owners manual and may help.

      TO REPLACE BLADE
      1. Position the blade adapter on the engine crank shaft.
Be sure key in adapter and crankshaft keyway are
aligned; and that the drive belt is inside the tabs of the
      belt retainer (Figure 20).
      2. Install debris shield using screw.
      3. Position blade on the blade adapter.
IMPORTANT: TO ENSURE PROPER ASSEMBLY, CENTER
HOLE IN BLADE MUST ALIGN WITH STAR ON BLADE
      ADAPTER.
      4. Be sure the trailing edge of blade (opposite sharp edge)
      is up toward the engine.
      5. Install the blade bolt with the lock washer and hardened
washer into blade adapter and crankshaft.
      6. Use block of wood between blade and lawn mower
housing and tighten the blade bolt, turning clockwise.
      • The recommended tightening torque is 35–40 ft. lbs.
