    Question:
I have a Husqvarna YTH2348 mower with the B & S 23HP Intek engine and Husqvarna calls for a Champion QC12YC plug gapped at .040. Briggs & Stratton calls for 4910556S which is a Champion RC12YC gapped to .030. My question is which do I use and what gap do I set it at. Also, what should the torque be for the spark plugs. Thank you!

What is model, type, and datecode numbers of the Briggs engine?. Usually found one one of the valve covers.

        Use the RC12YC gapped @ .030"

        Torque to 180 in-lb.

Thank you for your answer Eugene!  I guess I don't understand why Husqvarna would specify a different spark plug with a different gap.  Do you have a good answer for this question.  For those of us who read the manuals , have the ability, tools and interest in doing our own service and maintenance, it sure creates some confusion!!!

It is probably because the recent changes in ignition systems that Briggs did on some the newer OHV engines but this was mainly related to the smaller OHV engines used on the walk behind mowers.

This is why I prefer to check the engine info on the Briggs Power Portal since they are the manufacture of the engine.

Just be aware that if you ever new a new coil many of newer coils will also look different as they have changed over to SMD components which allows for the relocation of the trigger circuit and also allows for smaller footprint of the coil. But most these changes do not need the plug the be changed however.

This is from a Briggs & Stratton website about the proper spark plug and gap.
