I have a model 580RS mower. My problem is that you cannot push the mower forward unless the engine is running and you can hardly pull it backwards whether the engine is running or not

This is a mower that is approximately 10 years old. the mower should not be difficult to pull rearwards or to push forwards. This is an indication that the drive system is not releasing as it is intended to do. You may look to see if the drive system can be lubricated as well you may need to take t in to your local authorized Husqvarna service center for repairs.
