    Question:
Are the wheels on lawn tractors greased at the factory or at the seller like Lowes before being sold to a customer? My LGT2554 less than a year old had a front wheel to fall off and the bearing was disintegrated. The maintenance was 24 hours beyond the 25 hour greasing as suggested. However, this doesn't seem like such deterioration should occur if the joint had adequate lubrication prior to selling.

Thank you for contacting Husqvarna's Answer Army.

The wheels are greased at the factory when installed on the unit.

They may not be "packed full" at assembly but the amount provided normally is adequate to grease and protect the bushings up to the recommended user maintenance point.

Did you have repairs done by an authorized Husqvarna Warranty Service dealership? If so, and he felt the initial factory application was not adequate, he should have been able to file warranty for replacing the wheel bushings. You may want to review the situation with that dealer to see if warranty coverage might possibly be considered.

After thorough inspection, I determined that the wheel was NEVER greased.  I learned from this that one should apply grease to all fittings even when new.  Don't expect new equipment to be properly serviced.

Since an authorized repair person said this was not covered in the warranty, I purchased a new wheel and put it on myself.  The wheel was damaged in the coming off process thus a bearing would not have been adequate.  This damage could not have happened with even a minimum amount of grease.  Since the wheel was so close to the engine, I could not detect sounds of metal on metal wear.  I have operated Husqvarna mowers for many years and never had any problems with wheel bearings.  This was such a shock to me.  My wife was mowing at the time and I was as shocked as she was with this mower being less than a year old.  I still have the damaged wheel.  The tire is good and I plan to use it if I ever have tire problems.
