    Question:
    YTA22v46 transmission noise?
    Details:

YTA22v46 automatic transmission on Husqvarna mower purchased from Lowes makes a noise anytime the transmission is engaged.  This includes sitting at idle not moving or full bore mowing.  It appears the belt that engages the transmission is engaged at any time the parking brake is off.  When the parking brake is on the noise quits.  Sounds almost like something that wasn't greased or something rubbing that isn't supposed to.  Not familiar with this new transmission type.  Noise started from the very beginning before the first mow. Have mowed one time and the mower operated fine except for this noise.  Any ideas?  Take it back?

Hydrostatic transmissions all make a bit of noise except when the brake is depressed. No worries! But beware most lawn tractors use a Tufftorq K46 transmission which is very light duty and not designed to mow up steep hills or pull heavy loads. I got 4 years out of mine, so I've moved up to a true garden tractor.

YTA22V46 has an CVT transmission, it is not a hydrostatic as in a Tufftorq K46. Mine sounds just like yours so I searched out other owners and they have the same "noise". I called support but I dont think they understood what I was saying. It seems to be nornal for a CVT to make that sound .My mower seems to be a great investment. Only time will tell. Let me know if you find out otherwise.

I also heard a squealing noise when I engaged the drive on my husqvarna yth22v46 for the first time this season. As mentioned it sounded like surfaces rubbing together that had not been greased. After considering possible problems with the transmission I discovered that this sound was coming from 1 of the 3 pulleys that engage with the drive belt when the transmission is engaged. If the pulleys don't turn freely, either because the bushings are not oiled properly or there is debris between the belt and pulley this causes a high pitched rubbing sound. In my case the rubbing was so bad that it melted the plastic on the pulley and caused some unnecessary wear to the drive belt itself. From what I learned about the transmission on the Husqvarna website is that it is sealed and should not ever need to be lubricated.
