Snow Blowers

Hi, I purchased a new (11/2016) St 224 P. Very nice!
here's the issue:
Whenever I engage the auger there is a noise that sounds somewhat like shifting a manual transmission without using the clutch. It lasts no more than half a second.
Is this a normal noise? Should it occur at each engagement?
