    Question:
I just purchased a RZ4623 4 days back June 3, 2012 , and cut my grass the first time same day . Two days after cutting I have noticed several brown burned spots in my lush green yard, it looks like something has sprayed out. Not sure if gas or oil I made visual once over on mower and do not see any leaks. What could this be, gas leak, oil leak, or some sort of blow back maybe out muffler?
Grass is not burnt from turning or driving of mower I have several years commercial experience on zero turns, nor from deck height being to low, deck was set very high barely clipped tops
Any insight on what I need to look for would be deeply appreciated.

I have noticed the same thing with my 46 inch ZTR. The day after I wash the deck the grass is burned under the engine. I now stop on cement to wash it. Then this weekend I showed my 22 year old daughter how to mow and today I have ten or more burn spots. I told her to go slow where she was not comfortable. I think the exhaust plate is not stopping the heat from radiating down and cooking the grass. We need a modification that will protect the grass from engine heat.

When the mower is hot and running you can not put your hand on the ground below the pipes or muffler for very long due to the radiant heat. That is what is cooking the grass. I bought some stainless steel fiber filled heat shields and bolted them under the frame so they extend out below the muffler and pipes.  That seems to be working. They do hit stuff down there and are now folded up around the muffler but not touching. I am leaving it that way, sort of like a self modifying part. I used stainless steel bolts and nuts and coated them or "wet installed" them with automotive high temp silicone sealant. That should keep the steal frame from rusting where I had to drill holes.  Now I need a traction control system to keep the tires from spinning and ripping up my grass. I'll let you know if I figure out how to do that.

      Guys,

I too have had the same problem with my brand new RZ4623. After some experimentation it seems like the exhaust shield isn't wide enough to deflect the hot gases that are exiting out of the left side. There is an "optional" exhaust shield that really should be installed on all new mowers! If you are like me you and don't drop the mowing deck.  As such the grass in your yard is much taller than the average yard that looks like crap in the summer. I called customer service and they did send me one, eventually. Husqvarna part # 575262002.

Kinda disappointing from a safety perspective. If it's hot enough to burn wet grass, wait till it gets dry again.

Update the part is still on back order, July 16, 2013 AD, in case it never shows up and some paleontologist digs this post up. Charles

Update the part came in today 07/24/2013.  It looks like a rectangulr piece of black metal similar to the current heat shield with four holes in the middle and one corner a square notch is cut out.

Get this I called "Customer Support", explained I received the part but there were no instructions with it.  Her answer, "Sir, when we ship out parts we expect that YOU KNOW ENOUGH to be able to install it!  HA and friendly too! (Sarcasm dripping).  I went on to explain since this was an "optional" part not already on the mower and that since Husqvarna nor any other parts supplier had an image ANYWHERE on the net or a schematic/blow up of said part on Husqvarna's own literature and that I called no less than six dealers no one has ever seen this thing!  I went on to tell her that since I was unable to locate a picture or find a dealer that new anything about it, that maybe I should called the company that made it.  She repeated her earlier comment so I left her off the hook by saying, "If you do not know how to install it that's ok I'll figure it out on my own.

      AMAZING!!!!!

I have the ANSWER! It's quite simple the exit on the muffler is made out of thin sheet metal. While installing the muffler heat shield I noticed that the metal port on the muffler is fairly thin so I took a pair of duckbill pliers and bent the tip of the port slightly upwards! PROBLEM SOLVED!!! Everyone at customer service, do all of your customers a Huge favor and close shop. Save the money on your salaries complete the disaster that is customer service and do like every other POS company and hire the Indians in Asia, not the ones out west. With the savings you could actually hire some one that might actually help your customers!

Brown spots caused by exhaust.  There is a crescent shaped piece that has two scews holding onto the main exhaust.  I bent the edge up on it on all sides.  Didn't want to block or restrict the exhaust too much.  It helped but really needs a different design.  Again if you mow your yard at a low height theis probably isn't an issue for you.  If you are like me and don't even drop the deck then if you stay parked in an area for more than twenty seconds be prepared for brown spots.
