Question:
I recently purchased a riding mower at Lowes, YTH18542, and have used it about 8 times. Since the first usage upon starting white smoke bellows out of the front of the machine for about the first 15 minutes of use. The smell is kind of like burning rubber. I have noticed a build up of what appears to be oil or grease under the lower front grill and it looks like I have oil stains on my garage floor. I checked the oil level and it is fine.
Answer
Ron, You should already taken it back to Lowes for repairs. It does sounds like a fuel seep problem causing oil to be in the muffler but smelling like burning rubber could also a sign belt or pulley problem.
Please have this check very soon or you might have a fire on your hands.
