    Question:
Why is oil seeping into the cylinder while being stored? I have a 324LDX trimmer and I store it vertically on a hanger against the wall in our shed. This is the 2nd season in a row that I've had to take it in for maintenance. The recommendation is to not store it tipped in any direction for an extended period of time. Why is this happening and what is the proper way to store it? I thought I remember reading somewhere that this model of trimmer did not have any issues with whatever angle it was held or stored at.

This is the problem with this design and no one have have found a solution. This problem has been every since the first Ryobi 4 cycle came on the market. Oil is migrating through the valve stems into the cylinder and pass the piston rings.

To prevent the problem the unit must store horizontally with the cylinder's spark plug facing up.

Now the only 4 cycle handheld engine that I know that can be safely operated and stored at any angle is the Stihl's 4 mix system. They do not use a separate oil chamber as they use a 2 cycle fuel mix to operate these. Yes they are true 4 cycle engines that just uses 2 cycle fuel mix to provide the needed engine lubrication.
