Walk Behind Lawn Mowers

Hi. I am thinking of purchasing an lc 221a which is an AWD self propel lawn mower. It is my first self propel mover. I have always had a regular push mower that I can go at my own fast pace. Can I push this mower at my own pace if I do not hold the self propel bar? I would like the self propel part for my wife when I am out of town.
