Question:
My new 7021P push mower does NOT start - Bad Choke possibly?
I recently bought this mower with the Honda engine and straight from the box - 2 weeks ago, the starting has been problematic. Here's what I'm doing and open to suggestions and remedies.
1. New gas and oil installed.
2. Slide the choke lever - in the direction indicated by the arrow (auto choke, right?) and hold the handle and pull cord to start.
As soon as I hold the handle the choke lever immediately begins to slide back, before I can even pull the cord. Is this normal? I assume it should stay in choke until warmed up and the operator should manually slide the choke lever back.
I only got the mower to start once, and that was having to wedge the lever in place. I have not been able to start it since. This is 2 weeks old.
I also feel like I'm not getting the full coil on the pull, there's 2-3 inches of slack before I feel any resistance on the pull.
The mulching was great when it worked though.
Any advice?
Jae,
This unit does have an auto choke. The unit begins to move off of choke automatically. However, it may need adjusting. The lever should stay in the choke position long enough for you to start the mower. The recoil should have a little movement prior to the starter pawls engaging. This sounds normal on your machine.
