can dif motors take dif chain bars. Im a wood carver and want to get into larger projects that start with 3ft wide trees and as i narrow down the work Id like to be able to switch to smaller blade size and keep going.

Yes different power heads accept different lengths of bar, typically a difference of 4 inches is common some saws can accept a wider variance of bar length and are typically the larger saws.
