    Question:
450 Rancher Farm Tough. Just bought it a couple days ago and just started it for the first time today. When I start it and turn the brake off, the idle increases and the chain moves faster and faster progressively until I kill it. I haven't cut a single thing with it yet because I may be taking it back to get something else because I need a properly functioning chainsaw tomorrow. A brand new chainsaw should not be dysfunctional. What's going on here?

      Josh,

A couple of things come to mind that I would check, First remove the clutch cover, bar and chain, and Inspect the enclosure for shipping/ packing material which may look like a styrafoam white washer on one of the bar bolts. If its there then remove it, and that should fix your problem.

Second, when you start up your chainsaw, and after removing the brake, goose the throttle trigger, this releases the pre-set starting throttle position, and should bring it back to a normal idle with the chain Not running.

Third, After your sure the chainsaw is in an idle, and you have momentarily pulled on the throttle, adjust the "T" adjustment screw counterclockwise, until the chain stops running. Unless of course it is an "Autotune", then there are no adjustments.

If the following does not correct your problem, then I suspect you could have a carburettor problem or an  air leak to the engine, which obviously would not be good, and then I agree with you about returning it to your place of purchase.

      I hope this helps.

PS. I am not a Husqvarna Representative or an Authorized Repair, just an experimental chainsaw person
