when the trimmer shuts off, I give it full choke and it will run again for a few minutes and shut off again . I get tired of playing with the choke. its got to be the carb. I have the tool to adjust the carb, but where do you start ? turn them all the way in and how far to back them out for a starting point on each adjuster?
The base adjustment for most Zama carburetors other on Stihls is 1-1/2 from lightly seated. This should get it to start but it wouldn't run very well. Then engine needs to run 3-5 minutes before final tuning is done as the engine needs to fully warmed up to do so.
Note: you should note how turns you go in the first time for at least you know if your close to the original settings.
The C1Q-W40A can be pain to repair and half the time they are replaced due to excessive wear.
Answer
Leroy, If it running 5 minutes and then shutting off it not the carburetor but more likely an ignition coil or spark spark problem.
It is a EPA violation for an end user to adjust the carburetor; hence, the limiter caps.
