    Question:
I have a Husqvarna 150BT backpack blower that is 2-3 years old and has performed well up until now. While blowing driveway, the engine suddenly started making a grinding noise and lost speed at full throttle. When pulling the starter rope with the spark plug out, I could feel that something was binding on part of the rotation.

I dissassembled much of the blower and found that the flywheel was contacting the ignition coil on part of the rotation. It had gouged a groove in the flywheel and worn the pick-up points on the coil. The crankshaft bearings appear to be tight, so my conclusion is that the end of the crankshaft is bent.

However, I didn't hear anything get sucked into the blower and there are no marks on the impeller that would indicate an impact that could have bent the shaft. After removing the flywheel, it is not clear that the shaft is bent, so I'm starting to question my diagnosis.

Any thoughts? I found parts available on line, but with a total cost of ~$200 for crankshaft, flywheel and coil, I'm approaching the cost of a new blower.
