    Question:
I had two 350 chainsaws since about 2004. They both went through Katrina Clean up and did very well. Recently I switched from making my own fuel blend to Husqvarna Fuel in a can. I went through about two cans on each saw taking a Sycamore tree off my shed. Both saws worked fine. On the third can for each saw, both of the engines have literately self destructed - pistons scored on both saws to the effect of no compression. Both saws were recently tuned at a authorized dealer. Anybody have any ideas? The dealer said it looked like both saws didn't have sufficient lubrication from the fuel.

Sounds a problem with the fuel. See if the dealer will cover the damage under Husqvarna Fuel product warranty as it does sound lack proper oil mixture in the fuel. Personally I only trust my own fuel mixing as I know exactly who to blame if I mess up.

      Barry,

Wow & Yikes, I have never heard of such a thing happening.

Obviously, other than fuel lubrication, would be carburetor settings but not on two saws at the same time. Do you still have the empty premix can? As Eugene stated, I think I would bring the empty fuel can and chainsaw to a local dealer, maybe they can check the lot number or Manufacturers code off the container, and see if there was a problem. Also, I am assuming you were using the premix with the 50:1 ratio, I have seen some Pre-mix cans that were not 50:1 but you should have noticed that chainsaw was running funny.fuel

I also Know they sell test kits for checking the fuel, If you still have a little fuel left in the chainsaw tank, maybe you can get that tested to see what it tells you.

I like Eugene also mix my own fuel, I have tried the premix once but it was a little pricey, and I run thru gallons of fuel mix in a short amount of time with all my engines. Oh also, I almost made a mistake this week, which would have been a first for me since I am usually so so careful but I got side tracked and since I mix using a pint measuring beaker, I lost count of how many beakers I loaded into my gallon container. (Note to self: 8 pints equal a gallon). It is easy to make a mistake, and have heard of lots of individuals that used straight gas because they forgot to add the oil.

Anyhow, I hope you get some resolution from the Dealer.

I half to raise my hand on that one. About 4 yrs ago I burned up two blowers because I picked up the wrong fuel can; I was in a hurry to get some work done before it rained. Luckily that they were my own blowers. I now use two different size containers a 2 gal for 2 cycle and 5 gal for reg fuel needs. I even labeled the 2 cycle can and always double check before fueling now.
