    Question:
I have a Husqvarna 440 chain saw that has never really started very well. In the manual (2013-04-22 Rev 4) is says to check the spark plug, but the numbered parts 1-25 (pictures) on page 2 and the parts listing (text) on page 10 don't list spark plug. where is the spark plug? I purchased this originally in August and the chain brake stuck and would not pull back, so Lowe's replaced it with this new one. I am just trying to be able to get this started and am trying everything I see in the manual and on-line to make this happen. I have been very disappointed in Husqvarna as both of these have been very hard to start.

Also, where do I find the serial number? On the handle all I could find was DHVXS 0414AB 41CC EM/N, but when I typed that into your on-line search for manuals (which I have), it did not pull up as a legitimate search criteria ?

      Willie,

Here is a link to Rev 5 of your manual: /images/ddoc/HUSO/HUSO2013_NAenNAfrNAes/HUSO2013_NAenNAfrNAes__1154886-49.pdf

The spark plug is located under the top cover which is held on by clips, diagram 101 of Rev 5, shows the spark plug. The Spark plugs specifications are on the Technical Data page 32.

The nameplate if its not in plain view is possibly under the clutch cover, diagram 35, so you will need to remove the clutch cover, and bar and chain.

      I hope this helps.

PS. I am Not a Husqvarna Representative or Authorized Repair, just an  experimental chainsaw person.

      Willie,

Your symptom of Not starting easily, could be a number of different things including the Spark, however from my experience I usually found that if it does not start easily it is probably the carburetor. If it does Not start properly usually the carburetor either needs an adjustment or is not working properly. When you get the right amount of air and fuel mixed by the carburetor, a chainsaw engine will typically start in one or two pulls.

If your chainsaw is still within warranty, I would recommend an Authorized Husqvarna  Repair store should take a look at your carburetor, and possibly make an adjustment.

If I can be of any help, or you have specific questions then please give me a shout, and I will be glad to try and help you.
