    Question:
Hi, I purchased the Weedeater One on 7/24/10. I've used it twice, but have never been able to get the automatic start to work. I have to use the pull start. I think I've followed the correct procedures (i.e. free control engaged, sitting on seat, parking break set, neutral, and deck clutch disengaged). When I turn the key to the start position, I get nothing, not even a click sound. Do you have a suggestion? Should I return it to Home Deport or take it to a service center? Thanks.

Hi Dean and thanks for using the Answer Army to post your questions.

It sounds like your doing everything correctly as per the Owner's Manual. The only thing I can offer is to make sure you are sitting completely in the seat and not leaning too far forward. There is an operator presence switch that needs to be fully depressed before the starter will engage.

If you know you are doing all of this then you may just have a dead battery.  You can either recharge your battery with a 12V 2.8amp hour battery.  Charging with any other charger or an automotive style charger can cause permanent damage to the battery.  A full 24 hours is the recommended charge time.  Also, your local servicing dealer may be able to provide you a new battery if needed.  Considering that the machine is so new I feel that it would be under warranty and should be replaced at no cost to you.

You can either follow the link below to find a service center based on your address or you can contact us directly at 1-800-487-5951
