    Question:
I own a Rancher 455 with S/N 07 1601155. Other # on tag is 965 03 02-00. Came with 20 inch chain bar. After taking in for service the clutch drum and chain bar were replaced with a Oregon products. Now, there is very little adjustment to tension chains on my saw no matter if OEM chains are used or not. Can I replace clutch drum with Husqvarna OEM product to solve my problem or do both drum and chain bar have to be replaced. Thanks so much! Ernest

What chain and bar you have it currently? .325 or 3/8? and drive count.

If the bar and drive sprocket is correct and your simply running out adjustment room, You may need to try a 72LP71 Oregon chain which would 3/8 .050 Full Chisel chain with 71 drive links or if you can find someone that can modify an used chain to 71 DL for you to try. That take about 3/4" out the chain loop and may work. I haven't tried this as I am just getting into chainsaws but I noticed a few bars running out adjustment room too.

I still got to get a chain break and spinner setup here for making custom length chains and repairs. I just haven't any calls for this kind of work.

      Ernest,

I agree with Eugene, and the symptom that you are having is Not because of the Manufacturer. Oregon bar and chains, and sprockets are good quality products, I use them all the time.

Your problem is that you have a Mismatch, and I suspect that whoever changed your sprocket and bar, has put a .325 pitch Sprocket, and a .325 pitch bar on you chainsaw. Your chain is possibly a 3/8" pitch, and that will give you exactly the symptom that you are having with running out of tension adjustment.

Here is what you will need to check, remove the bar and chain. Next remove the drive Sprocket, and look for a stamped part number on the drive sprocket, It also may have the sprocket size stamped on it (ie. Oregon .325). Next look at the tail end of the bar, where the bar bolt holes are and you should see a series of numbers on the bar, you are looking for either .325 or 3/8. If the bar and the drive sprocket are both .325, then all you will need to do is buy a .325 pitch chain which matches the numbers on the bar.

If the numbers are different between the drive sprocket and bar, lets say the bar says 3/8" but the drive sprocket says .325, then you will have to make a decision. Remember the drive sprocket pitch has to match the bar, and the chain has to match the bar too. All three locations (drive sprocket, bar, and chain) must have the same pitch.

I hope this helps, and makes sense

PS. I am Not a Husqvarna Representative or Repair Service, just an experimental chainsaw person.

No let me clarify, i've never had problems with Oregon products.  I was just trying to explain my situation and I really appreciate your response.  It's very clear and gives me a starting point.  Thanks so much! Ernest
