    Question:
I have a RZ5425 Zero Turn Mower a little over 2 years old. After ~20-30 minutes operation, the right hydraulic drive become noisy and sluggish in response. The noise is rough, but short of grinding, with intermittent clicking. Not to the level of cavitation that I am familiar with, but possibly the case. I was thinking it is probably related to the fluid heating up and viscosity degradation.

I am looking for guidance on checking/changing the hydraulic fluid on the RZ5424, as I do not see anything in the manual or learn anything from the Parts Diagram. Specifically, I do not see a hydraulic reservoir, so it may be sealed, but hopefully still maintainable. Specification of recommended fluid is of interest as well.

    Thanks

The Hydro Gear EZT uses 56 fl. oz. / 1.75 qt. (1650 ml) of 20w50

FLUID CHANGE PROCEDURE (extracted from the service manual)

This transaxle is factory filled, sealed and does not require oil maintenance. However, in the event of oil contamination or degradation, oil addition or change may alleviate certain performance problems.
      1. Remove the transaxle from the vehicle.
NOTE: If removing the wheel from the transaxle, do so by removing the four (4)
lug nuts. Do not remove the axle/hub nut.
      2. Clean the oil fill port area of any debris.
      3. Remove the oil fill port fitting.
      4. Position the transaxle so the oil will drain completely out of the housing. (Please recycle the oil)
      5. Fill the transaxle at the oil fill port.
      6. Install the oil fill port fitting.
      7. Purging will be required.
      8. Recheck the fluid level once the unit has been operated for approximately 1 minute.

Although listed as part of the above procedure in the sevice manual re-install the transaxle.

Thank you very much for the assistance.  Is there a way to procure a copy of the Service Manual?  Husqvarna referred me to a local dealer, but they don't sell them.  Is there an online retailer of these manuals?

Do you have to take it off just to add fluid? Mine does the same thing mowing steep hills I lose the left side about 80%.
