Question:
1995 model 51. Hard starting when not used for a few days. By hard starting I mean it is difficult to pull through. I can pull it about 6 or 7 inches and two compression cycles and then the cord stops. I keep trying to start maybe 25-30 times and then it will fire and then I can pull it all the way through and it will start. For the rest of my use that day it always pulls through and I have no problem starting the chainsaw.
Looking for advice, Gary
Answer
Gary,
I think you may have the metering needle valve (Inside the carburator) not closing completely when the saw is shut off, This allows liquid fuel to enter thru the carburator and into the cylinder. Then the next time you try to start the saw from a cold start, your trying to compress this liquid instead of compressing gas and air. Liquids do not compress very well, hence the hard start, however after you do get the piston moving it allows the liquid to go past the rings and into the crankcase. So whats the fix, If its always done this, I would suspect the metering lever is set a little too high and needs to be adjusted. However, If it just started doing this, then I suspect the metering diaphram has become deformed, and will need to be replaced, and/or a piece of debris has gotten into the needle seat, and is keeping the needle from fully closing when the saw is shut off. I would recommend taking the saw to a husqvarna authorized repair center, so they can inspect and replace the metering diaphram, clean the carburator, and adjust the (L) idle and (H) high settings of the carburator.
I hope this information helps.
