    Question:
I have a Husky 345 chainsaw that leaks bar chain oil like crazy when stored in the upright position. What is the right way to store it to avoid this problem? Thank you.

      Tom,

First, storing the saw in a specific position is not the problem, so If you have the fuel and oil caps upright, and the saw is not lying on its side, then again storage is not the problem.

I am Not real familiar with the 345 chainsaw oiler, but I have looked at the 445, and suspect it is similar, all chainsaws lose some bar chain oil, and this because when the saw is hot and just after running it, when you shut it down, the bar oil runs back in the bar channel to a point just under the clutch cover and then drips off. This is usually about an ounce or two, and makes a small puddle of oil in the bottom of your chainsaw case, If you immediately put it away while its still hot.  I usually wait till the saw cools off, then the oil is thicker and stops dripping.

However, some of the 455 chainsaws did have an oil pump problem, and Husqvarna did make some replacement parts, and If you were losing a lot of oil then you could take it to a Husqvarana authorized repair center and they would replace these parts, so I guess the real question is it an an ounce or two, or alot of oil.

If the saw is still under warranty, I would recommend taking it to an authorized repair center, If its not and you want to do the repairs yourself, Its really pretty easy, and could only be one of two-three parts, the oiler is not that complicated, and there are no oil seals to replace, just a couple basic parts, If you refer to your saws' IPL drawings you will easily see those parts (ie, Oil pump, connector tubing).

Edit: I just did a quick review of the 345 IPL, see attached drawing. I stand corrected there is a part called an oil seal, see part

Its about a $9.99 part, again I hope this helps.
