    Question:
Hello, I purchased a 440E chainsaw from a local dealer in Sept. 2008. I have used it occasionally for the past 3 years and had been totally satisfied. I always maintained the saw, cleaned and properly store after each use. Recently I had noticed the saw was idling high so I took it to my local shop figuring it needed a tune-up. Much to my surprise I was informed the saw wasn’t worth repairing. A three year old saw wasn’t worth repairing. The gears were stripped and needed to be replaced. Concerned, I asked if it was my fault with the way I operated the unit. The reply I received was “no, we can tell you took care of it, just happens sometimes” . My local dealer could offer little support and the consumer parts hot line was another dead end.

I’m sure you can imagine my frustration with your product. I had done my homework before my purchased and determined this saw was a good fit. Little did I know that the quality would not last 3 years. Had I been offered an extended warranty I would have purchased it but nothing was offered at the local dealer. Plus, I had heard nothing but good reviews from your products and never thought a major repair would be an issue in such a short time frame.

I realize I’m just a little a little guy cutting trees in his backyard but I would imagine in this consumer market every sale would be important as would positive reviews. I will be purchasing a new saw in the near future but unfortunately Husqvarna is now at the bottom of my list. Furthermore, I find it hard to recommend your products to anyone looking to purchase. I have always been a person that was willing to pay for quality but quite frankly I feel like I’ve been ripped off by Husqvarna!

    Sincerely,

Thank you for contacting the AnswerARMY.

It is very upsetting that you have had this failure.

I am very puzzled by this, there are only two "gears" on the saw and they control the oiler. If the saw runs it is difficult for me to imagine that anything serious is wrong with it.

I would ask that you consult the dealer again, all things fail for a reason, the most common reason is old, stale or incorrect fuel.

If the failure is fuel related and the HUGE majority of all failures are, this is not the fault of Husqvarna.

Please review the FAQs about fuel and your operators manual, also I would ask that you read the reply I posted about an hour ago.
