    Husqvarna 440 not oiling bar

    Question:
    Husqvarna 440 not oiling bar
    Details:

My Husqvarna 440 all of a sudden is not oiling the bar. I have disassembled it and checked the pump and it's gearing, all is well, visually. Blew out the oiler tube and slot, ensured no debris in oil port. Testing without the bar and chain on, it does not pump any oil out of the oiler-slot-tube.

On my 455 Rancher there is actually a screened oil tank vent hole in the same general location as the oiler slot, but I can find none on the 440, or where it is, the assumption at this point is that the oil tank vent hole is plugged.

So anyone know WHERE the vent hole for the oil tank is, or have any other ideas why this thing is not oiling?  The pump and oil tube assembly is only a few bucks, but getting that clutch off to get at them is a PITA. ( anyone got any tips for THAT? )

    Thx

Actually the clutch is easy with the right tools. You need a couple special tools to remove the clutch easily PN 502541603 and a piston stop or equal aftermarket versions.

Make sure both the pinion gear and the oil pump gears are undamage. Then make all passages are clear. The oil tank vent should be behind the chain guide plate. But it if not oiling right off the start then it is either pump or plumbing problems.

Thanks Eugene, I'll see if our local Husqvarna service center has this tool. If not I'll get it online.

As to the oil tank vent, you said, "The oil tank vent should be behind the chain guide plate."

Yeah, it should be, but I don't see it!  That's where it is on the 455, but not the 440.  If you can come up with a pic, that' be great, but so far I have been unable to find that either.

On another thread, it was discussed that if the oil tank vent hole is plugged, the oil pump will not pull oil due to the vacuum created; no air in, no oil out, and so this has set me off on my quest to find this quite elusive vent.

But I'll be off to get that clutch tool in the morning, thnx!

The vent should have usually a white plastic looking cap plug over it. This a breathable plastic/filter. I don't have one of the 440s around the shop as it is still the off season here as I mostly get the 450-460 and the larger 390s in for repairs. On these I have yet to see a plugged vent.

Now maybe Karla will drop in and maybe have a 440 sitting around.

      Robert.

Just curious If you are using the chainsaw in the cold weather ? If so the oiler might be fine but the oil is getting too thick from being cold, In which case you may want to try the "Husqvarna Winter Weight Bar Chain Oil".
