    Question:
Craftsman model 917.203901 T3000 22hp. riding mower. The hydrostatic drive will not purge. Drive is disengaged (pulled rod in the back and tractor rolls free) but wheels are still powered when activating forward/reverse pedal. Sears Rep says this isn't possible (I assure you, it is!) How do I disengage to perform required purge?

And understand why after looking the model number. It has a General Transmission RS800P transaxle. These have a auto reset that activates whenever depress the brake/clutch pedal. They don't need purging either or at least there is nothing in the service manual about doing a purge.

The Sear rep need some training on this one.

The owners manual does give instructions for purging.  Unfortunately, they are impossible to follow because, as you noted, the brake resets the transmission.  I will trailer it back to Sears and have the Rep try the purge before I use the mower.  When he fails, I'll have him sign off in case problems develop.  Thanks for your prompt response.
