From your information, I looked at the manual for that year and the illustrations are not the same as my saw, so I looked at the IPL 272 XP 268 2007-01 502 24 11-01 which refers to parts for serial # up to 4500001 and parts for serial # up to 74600001 and my number falls in between. Also the illustrations look more like my saw. So is it possible that they have repetition of serial numbers?

        Regards

      Guy,

I have Not heard of a duplicate serial number before, so Not sure why, But I would definitely go with the IPL drawing that matches your chainsaw.

But just as a rule of thumb for Husqvarna Serial numbers:

      1. Prior to 2000, they used the first digit to represent the year, so in your case "5" would typically mean 1995, Much older saws they went by colors of the saw, you can check this out by search FAQ's, I know there is a description posted previously.

      2. After 2000, the first two digits would be the year, so if you had a "05" then it would be a 2005 model.

3 Finally around 2010 and therafter, the first four digits was the year, so a "2010...." would be a 2010 model year.

So my assumption was that your model was a 1995, Sorry if that did not get you the correct IPL.

Thank you for your prompt reply

Is it possible that the saw would have been up-graded to a flywheel and an iignition hardware from a newer model? Are these parts interchangeable between those models

        Regards

      Guy,

I do not know the answer to your flywheel question. I would suggest a phone call to a local Husqvarna repair center, they may have access to the service letters for your model chainsaw, and can determine if there were any revisions made to your model.

Remember as far as interchangability, the flywheel, crankshaft keyway, and position of the ignition coil effect the timing of the engine. The flywheel and parts listed above effect when the spark plug will  typically fire at 10-15 degrees before TDC (top dead center), so its Not just a case of making all the parts fit. I know this was not your question but I was concerned with asking about interchangeable.

Some Individuals that want to soup up there chainsaws for competition cutting, experiment with changing the timing by changing these parts or changing the keyway position.

Oh, another thought on modifications or revisions, If you can find the next model year or even two years of IPL’s sometimes you can figure out the changes that they may have made by comparing the IPL drawings.

      I hope this helps.
