    Question:
Vibration Issue: I just bought a weedeater one from Walmart and when I engage the blades, there is a ton of noise and tons vibration like it's about to fall apart as the blades start going, but once it goes at full pace, it seems ok or at least much reduced. I don't know if this is normal or not, because I don't know anyone else with one, and the units on display at the store don't have any gas in them for me to compare to. So I was wondering if this is normal, and if not, is this something I can quickly fix because of an imbalance (and how do I do that), or is this something I need to return to the store immediately before my 14 days are up. Thanks in advance!

I found the same thing with mine the first time I operated it. What I found is that engaging the blade slowly stops the insane vibrating that is caused from the blade going from stationary to operating speed. Think of it like the clutch in a car, if you let it out to quickly the engine will die. That's what is happening when engaging the blade to fast.

      Hi Chummy,

Returning the product will be your best option, otherwise you will have to take it to a Weed Eater Authorized Service Dealer.

The service needed will have to be performed by a professional technician.

I apologize very much for the inconvenience. Thank you for contacting us and letting us know.

      Sincerely: Peter B.

        Hi Peter,

I just came back from Walmart with a new replacement. While there, I was able to test a unit that I guess someone had returned earlier, because it had some gas in it and it seemed to work much better. So I grabbed a brand new unit, figuring that the old one that I had was just defective. I just put gas in it to test, and it sounds horrible, vibrating just as bad or even worse than the old one. I tilted up the machine and I can see metal shavings around where the blade attaches to the unit, but it's not shavings from the blade or the cover, but probably from the motor. This may be common, since it's new, but the vibration is crazy. The guy that put all of these together probably needs to be retrained, but aside from me taking this unit back and exchanging for another (because it's such a hassle siphoning out the gas and trucking it back and dealing with store management) or taking it to an authorized dealer probably 50 miles away...what can I do to check and improve the balance on this thing. I really don't want to have to take this thing back and go with another brand, but I will if I have to.

        thanks,

        Chummy

I feel for you, i bought one and got 15 feet of mowing before the transmission went out. I been told that these units are the YUGO of riding mowers. My new mower sits in a repair shop and i wonder if my grass will be too high to cut before i get it back, then will the trans go again, or what else. I feel I will be a frequent guest of the repair shop in the next 2 yrs., and you might be too! good luck

I gave it a go today cutting the grass to see if the wobble worked itself off.  It hasn't really, I think I'm just getting used to it. I also noticed that when I put the unit into reverse, with the blade engaged, the whole mower cuts off.  If I turn off the blades then throw it into reverse, it does fine. Any ideas on why that is?

      thanks,

      Chummy

mine did the same thing , i thought it was included in the trans problem but i guess not. WOW, i am going to list my new we261 on craigslist to trade for a used garden tractor or brand name mower. I am fed up, i used my new mower for 15 feet before i had to take it to the shop, then the more I ask around the more horror stories I hear about this product. It surely isnt made for years of trouble free operation like the brand named mowers are. thanks, mike

so in other words the engine hasnt sufficient power to engage the blades without babying them. none of my neighbors have that issue with their riders , it must be a weedeater thing.  I keep hearing in my head........"you get what you pay for."   We live and learn I guess!!

Do yourself a HUGE favor and return this pile of crapp and buy a real lawn tractor. My weedeater one is broke, AGAIN!!! This time it's the drive wheel rubber for the friction tranny that went south. It came off in chunks while mowing. Major part and I couldn't find the part in stock in town. I got frustrated for the last time and went out and bought a REAL lawn tractor for only 265.00 more than what I originally paid for the junk mower "weed eater". I had heard folks call the weed eater one a throw away mower, and now I know what they are talking about. I have had mine exactly a year and it has been one thing after another from day one.

Cut grass yesterday with a new Poulan XT 42 inch 17.5 hp. O my God, what a difference!! Smooth, poweful and fast. Cut mowing time in half and lawn looks way, way better. Lot more fun too, lol.  Home depot for 949.00 plus 10% off for applying for credit card. I paid over 600.00 for the weed eater and there is absolutely no comparison between the 2.

O MY GOD!! I just found out that the part number 428106 has been discontinued. That's the friction wheel. The new part that replaces it is the entire transaxle assembly for 329.99 plus shipping. I couldn't find receipt so thank God for debit card records. Walmart was able to find me a receipt as long as I could provide the exact date it was purchased, so hopefully warranty will cover everything.

Wow will I be glad to see this pile of junk leave my shop for good.......

I´ve just bought an used WE261 and I found out that it couldn´t work in a 10° slope. Once I checked the friction wheel, I noticed that it was almost ruined. Now I read that the part number 428106 has been discontinued. Very bad choice I´ve made!

What solution could I find in Argentina?
