I am thinking about buying a 372xp, but the specs show it using a .058 guage bar/chain.
Can I put an aftermarket .050 bar on a 372xp with no ill effects?
(you see, I have several links of .050 3/8 chain I want to be able to use with it).

Yes you can but why not buy it already setup that way.
See the following link for the PN that you need to order it with length of 20, 24, 28 inch bar and chain.

I wonder if I can use my 28" .050 3/8 chain loops (91 drive links) from my Stihl saw on the 372xp 28" bar?

The Husky bar and chain is setup for 93 Drive Links on the 28" so answer would be no. It would be too short.
