    Question:
My riding mower kept burning out PTO's replaced the first one and had about ten cuts on it when it went out last week. Installed a new one today and after a 1/2 hr of mowing it burned out again! Sounds like a short somewhere also the battery keeps going dead replaced that also no difference. Went to Lowes they didn't have a clue. Anyone have the same problem? Help

Sounds like it might be a failed voltage regulator. They are not designed for than 16 vdc/vac max input voltage. Most systems are regulated at 14.8 vdc max. Excessive voltage will cause them to draw excessive current, overheat, and short out. Other things that needs checked is that you got the correct length belt, and that there is no binds like failing bearings in idler pulleys and spindles.

Also once an electric pto shorts out the pto switch should replaced too and sometimes even the ignition switch the amount of damage caused.
