Need to buy a gas chain saw today. Budget is $300+ but want one with an automatic chain tensioner. Does your 440 or 450 have and if not what do you reco?
Answer
The 440e has tool-less adjuster system but it is not a self adjusting system.

Personally I would stay away from such systems. I have had used a couple Poulan/Husqvarna saws that had them and found myself having to readjust the chain more often than the other version that requires tools. It simply would not stay adjusted as long,
My advice would take some time and really look into the these features before buying on spot. You will much happier if you do.
