    Question:
I have a 450 Rancher that came with a 20 inch bar (Lowes). I really want a 24 inch bar and am not prepared to buy the 460 or 465 Rancher to get the 24 inch bar. Oregon has a matched 24 inch bar/chain combo and Baileys online shows it compatible with the 450 Rancher. For reference the combo is Oregon 240RNDK095 24” Chainsaw Bar + Oregon 72LGX084G Chainsaw Chain Loop Combo, this combo is 3/8th inch pitch. As far as I can determine, all 450 series have a .325 pitch. What is entailed in changing out the .325 sprocket and installing the 3/8th inch sprocket. I understand there may be a shortage of bar oiling but I can manually add oil to the bar during use. Your assistancxe would be greatly appreciated.

In my opinion you are going to overtax the 450 power head . It currently has a .325 pixel BNC setup which is a narrow kerf setup. Even a standard .325 has a wider kerf and the BNC weighs more and will result in the bar tip to resting on the ground. I have a 450 that I did the conversion on as I upgraded it to an adjustable oil pump. A 3/8 BNC will have a even wider kerf and greater depth of cut which will overtax the power head even more especially if you are going to 24"

If I am correct you will need a rim drive clutch drum from a 359 to do the conversion. And you will definitely have oiling problems unless you convert to an adjustable oil pump which will require also changing out the oil pump pinion gear.
