    Question:
HU675AWD Engine Operating Speed Issue ---
My fairly new HU675AWD (still under warranty) mower will start and run, but not come up to speed anymore, it just runs at low idle speed. I can't find any throttle adjustments so I don't know how to make it run at normal speed. When it was new it ran properly, but one day after trimming around a bush, the engine speed came down to a slow idle speed (enough to move the machine but not cut grass)
    Can you help me?
    Thanks,
    --Jim

Sounds like the governor control spring has become dislodged. This could had happen when trimming around and part of the bush got the around the engine controls. Just a working theory as something else the governor system might be the problem.

Thanks for your quick response Eugene! One thing I forgot to mention is that I can manually bring the engine up to speed, it just won't do it on its own. The 3 springs I found seem to be in place, see the attached photo. They look normal to me, and all are connected. Which one is the governor control spring?

Look like yours is using the fixed speed with choke setup. The governor is circle in the following image. The adjust the governor speed would require bending the bracket at the upper end of the spring. Test that is is the problem put some tension on the upper end of the spring and make sure the engine does increase before making any adjustments. The normal max rpm for this engine around 3200 rpm.

The bracket you mentioned does not appear to have been bent (the arm is perpendicular to the main body of it. The spring also looks 'normal'. I'll be taking a closer look at it today so I'll let you know what I find.

Thanks again for your help and input! :)

Okay, I made a tweak to the spring rather than bend the bracket, just to see if I was on track with the repair. I started the mower and it idled faster than before, but not at its full operating speed. I ordered a new spring a couple days ago and it will be here tomorrow. My thoughts are that the new spring will be the proper tension and the mower will run at its normal speed again.

I'll post again after I install the new spring.
