    Question:
I work for a fire department and we run Husqvarna 16" K970, numerous 14" K970s, and 2 Ventmaster saws that have the Huqvarna 576-XT powerhead. These saws are checked each day and are started to ensure proper operation. Some questions have arisen as to what the best practice is when checking and starting the saw.

There are opinions that the saw should be started, allowed to idle for 60 seconds, the throttle opened to full throttle for 15-30 seconds, and then a 60 second idle down period prior to shutting off.

Others say the saw should be started and allowed to idle for 1-2 minutes, before opening the throttle and then allowed to idle for another 1-2 minutes before shutting off.

Another opinion was the saw should be started, brought to full idle, and then shut down with the least amount of idling possible.

The last part of my question pertains to the rev limiter and fully opening the throttle with no load on the saw. Will this damage the saw? Should the saw be brought to wide open throttle and if so how long is too long?

We would like to establish a definitive way for the saws to be checked so it is done properly and everyone is on the same page.

Side not we run Tru Fuel in all of our small engines.

Thank you in advance for any help you can lend on the subject.
