    I have a 2006 Husqvarna logth2448t riding mower that needs a new drive belt. I spent two hours under the mower today trying to get the new belt over the front pulley. I followed the instructions in the manual but I cannot get the belt past the retaining spring surrounding the pulley. Can you give me some idea as to how I am supposed to "gently roll" the belt onto the pulley as instructed in the manual. I am totally frustrated and probably will not purchase another Husqvarna if replacing the drive belt is this difficult.

      You must be missing something as it can be done the way they describe but I usually pressed for time here in the shop and I just drop the electric PTO clutch and put the belt on. One to remember doing it either way is to make that anti rotation spring or bar is put back in place or you will rip the wires out of the PTO clutch and then you need a new clutch.

        Thanks. I will check the v-idler while I try to get the belt on. I don't want to go under again if the new belt doesn't do the job. Sounds like some mowers were built around the drive belt. Wish they would come up with a drive shaft instead of a power belt.

          Don, Cub Cadet did have a shaft drive model out but it not very poplar due to the design with a hump like the old cars had. And how the deck belt was put on as they used a horizontal Kohler engine. Very rugged mower in my opinion.

            Glad you mentioned the idler to me. Found it to be stuck and the belt had worn about half the  pulley in two. Got the new  pulley on order so my belt situation is on hold until next week. Thanks for your words of wisdom and encouragement.. Don

      Thanks Eugene. I remember that the last time I replaced the belt I did it when I had to replace the electric clutch. Guess today I will remove the clutch and see if I can get the darned thing on. Shouldn't have to do this to get a belt on. Right now I am not a Husqvarna fan...

        Patience is key to doing this. Just don't be a big hurry and study how the belt tensing up and you may find something that the belt to be left left a pulley for enough room to slip it over that PTO. If the old belt came off intact then the new belt should back on. It maybe something your just over looking.

        There something you should check too and that is the v-idler pulley that is in the drive belt path. If it of plastic construction you probably will find it needs replacing too or the drive belt will be slipping even when new. These pulleys wear allowing the v-belt to bottom out in them.

        Some mowers are more difficult than others. Some of MTDs that I work on I even need to partially remove the rear differential just to get drive belt off and on and the pulleys on the engine need dropping too. Some of the JDs are a real pain too. The old Murrays needed the steering shaft removed as it passed through the center of the drive belt path.

        And started recently working ATVs. On them the sliding sheaves need be removed just to change the belt; a few don't but those sliding sheaves must be unload of their spring tension. To change these belts I had to special puller tools.
