    Question:
One of the Big Box stores delivers riding lawn mowers on a flatbed truck with a forklift to offload the items. I watched them lift the mowers with the forklift blades under the assembled mowers' cutting deck. Is this at all harmful to most brands, including Husqvarna?

They attempted to deliver a mower to me last week that didn't work [not a Husqvarna] and my suspicions are that the forklift may have been to blame. True/False?

    Thanks.

If properly palletized it not but you got to remember damage can occur during shipping from careless handling which can occur anywhere between the manufacture and the end user.

I receive packages that are damaged from time to time which why I insist on examining damage ones upon arrival and note the obvious damage with the carrier and then contact my vendor for the needed corrections.

It like the Tuff Torq TZT transaxle I just installed. It came in a crate that protect it from damage as long as the crate stays in an upright position with packaging to limit it movement but if it was turned upside down then there can still be damage.

And to answer your question Yes it can be damaged by careless operator.

      Thanks for the quick response.

What I was concerned about mostly was that the mower was NOT palletized. It was fully assembled out of the box/crate. The driver just stuck the forks under the deck and lifted the entire 800 lb. mower. He strapped it tight to the lift so that it would not squirm around on the forks and fall off but, other than that, when it backed the forklift away, we rolled it out of the street to the end of the driveway. From there, it would not go into gear to drive it further into the yard. My gut tells me that that was not a smart way to unload a mower. Your thoughts?

I never lift a mower here in the shop by the deck except those that designed to done so which are a few of the large commercial ZTRs. The decks are simply not strong enough to handle so loads which is why hangers and other linkages get bent or broken. Besides most decks are stamped steel and are easily bent.

I am only been working on lawn mowers professionally since 2009 but during this I have repaired a lot of bent and broken decks from impact damage.

Mowers should only be lifted by the frame or wheels; preferably by wheels. Even when lifted by the frame you got to be carefully as where you lift and the placement of the jack.
