    Question:
In comparing a Stihl 260 or 261 to a Husqvarna 346xp chain saws. Stihl uses a .325 pitch, (.063) saw chain gauge and Husqvarna uses a .325 pitch, (.058 ) gauge saw chain, Why doesn't Husqvarna use the heavier guage chain like Stihl?

Thank you for your interest, clarification the 346 comes with a narrow kerf chain as standard equipment which is .050 for the gauge.

Husqvarna does use .063 for our very large saws, in our experience the large saws because of the additional load placed on the chain by the greater HP and torque require the heavier chain and the smaller saws do not. The 346 default of using a narrow kerf chain is also for speed and quickness of cut.

The 346 is the worlds fastest production chainsaw when equipped with the correct bar and chain. The use of a chain that has a wider gauge (makes the chain heavier) actually slows the throttle response, while this is only marginal decrease in throttle response many users want every edge possible. Also the amount of wear on the bearing surface of the .050 versus the .063 gauge chain is negligible and does not add to the life of the chain for saws below a certain engine size.

I am sure you will have many years of excellent performance with your new 346XP chainsaw.
